Frequently asked questions.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a form of talking therapy like psychotherapy. It gives people the opportunity to share issues, worries, and difficulties they may be experiencing and that may be causing their mental health to be ‘out of sorts’. Counselling offers a safe space for these difficulties to be shared and heard without judgement.
What happens in the first counselling session?
The first session is the first step to building a trusting relationship. My aim is to help you, as the client, explore what is going on in your life that has brought you to counselling. The first session is where the contracting will begin, for example discussing important boundaries such as confidentiality.
Is counselling confidential?
In essence, yes, counselling is a safe and confidential space. However, there are exceptions to this, for example where a person discloses the intent to bring harm to self or others.
How many sessions would I need?
This will depend on the issues you are experiencing and ultimately is your choice as the client.
Is there a cancellation policy?
I ask clients to provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they wish to cancel their session. This allows me to allocate days and times to others and also means you will avoid the cancellation fee of £10.
